 Registration Questions

Is group registration available?

Yes, SLS20 welcomes those who would like to attend the event together as a group! If you would like to pay for multiple registrations at the same time, please email FOCUS at Please provide a description of your group that includes the total number of people, how many students and adults, and which campus the students are coming from (this allows us to calculate the current total cost for these registrations). After receiving your email, we will reach out to collect payment. 

  • The payment must be by credit or debit card over the phone. This will be a prepayment for the registrations, which should be completed after group payment is received. 

  • We encourage you to have your group list solidified before making payments to avoid multiple transactions. 

  • If parts of your group have already registered, group payments can only cover remaining balances on those registrations. We cannot refund group members who have already put down a deposit.

  • All registrations must be completed before the following registration deadline (the two deadlines are October 28, 2019 and November 25, 2019). 

  • Please note that you are responsible for the registration cost of those in your group, even if they end up not attending. 

Each member of your group will need to purchase an Event Pass for SLS20. More information about booking hotel rooms as a group will be coming soon.

Where and when will SLS20 be held?

SLS20 will take place December 30, 2019 – January 3, 2020 at the Phoenix Convention Center, 100 N 3rd St., Phoenix, Arizona, 85004.

Are there discounts or scholarships available?

Will will offer a discounted price to students, priests, seminarians, and religious who will attend SLS20. A limited number of scholarships are available for students. Applications for those scholarships will open in early fall 2019. You will be contacted regarding the status of your application by no later than December 4, 2019.

Can I fundraise to cover the cost of my registration and/or travel?

Yes! Most of our conference attendees fundraise for their registration, travel costs, food and more. Fundraising is an opportunity to meet the cost of registration while inviting others to support you as you strive to become a next-generation leader. When others donate to help you attend SLS20, they too become partners alongside you as you work to carry out the Great Commission.

There are numerous ways to fundraise. For more information and resources on fundraising, speak to your campus missionaries.

What do I get with an Event Pass?

Every Event Pass includes the following:

  • Lunch for each full day of the conference

  • Entrance to all sessions and keynotes

  • A seat at all evening concerts and entertainment

  • Access to conference resources, such as the SLS20 app

  • A one-of-a-kind encounter with Jesus Christ and the Church through prayer, Mass, adoration and the sacraments

Does my Event Pass include meals?

Yes. An Event Pass provides lunch during each full day of the conference. You can annotate any personal dietary restrictions on your registration. 

If I register for a Family Pass, do my children need an Event Pass?

Yes. To enter the Phoenix Convention Center and pass through security, each person will need an Event Pass. Spouses and children can be added to a registration by selecting the Family Pass option. The following are the costs for each child, by age:

  • Child aged 0-2: $0

  • Child aged 3-12: $63

  • Child aged 13-18: $199

  • Child aged 18+: $459

What if I accidentally registered for the wrong item?

Never fear! If you need to change your contact info, just log back in to your registration account using your confirmation code and email address. This will allow you to adjust your registration. What is the cancellation policy?

We’ll save a spot for you in Phoenix from the moment you register, but if you need to give up your spot for any reason, you can find our cancellation policy here.

When is payment due?

Final payment is due by November 25, 2019.

I’m under 18 (or my child is under 18), and I’d like to come to SLS20. How do I submit my parental consent form?

If you or your child is under 18 years of age and attending SLS20, please submit a parental consent form. You can find the form here.

Can high school students attend?

Only high school students who graduate in 2020 are encouraged to attend. If the student will be under the age of 18 as of December 30, 2019, a parent or guardian must fill out the parental consent form and upload it to the student's registration. The student must be accompanied by a guardian/chaperone and room with a family member or other high school students. For youth groups: More information about group housing will be coming soon. 

Why do I have to pay a fee to bring my young child?

Children ages two and up have a fee associated with them because we plan to provide boxed lunches, a name badge and an RFID wristband. They will also need their own seat at main sessions and will want a conference bag. We understand that each child is different, but we plan and order materials starting at this age. I’m a FOCUS staff member. How do I register?

Staff registration is not on the SLS20 website. Look for a Pilot article with registration information.

How much does registration cost?

I’m a member of the media looking to cover SLS20. Where do I start?

Will my card be charged for my remaining balance before the conference?

You are welcome to put down a non-refundable deposit on your registration, but payment in full is due by November 25, 2019. After November 25, we reserve the right to charge your credit/debit card for the remaining balance due. 

Can my registration be transferred to another person?

Event Passes can be transferred to another person of the same gender and registration type as the original registrant. For registration options that include housing, your Event Pass cannot be transferred after November 25, 2019. These substitutions can be requested by emailing with your name and confirmation number and the name and email address of the person who will be taking your place. 

What is the refund policy?

We are so excited for you to join us at SLS20. However, we know life can be unexpected. If for any reason you need to cancel your registration before October 29, only the deposit is non-refundable. Beginning October 29, 50% of the registration cost is non-refundable. Beginning November 26, there will be no refunds given. No-shows are not eligible for a refund. If you are paying for a member of your group who does not attend, you are still responsible for the cost of that registration.

Why can’t I find my confirmation email?

Our system sends an automatic confirmation email within a few minutes of completing registration. Be on the lookout for an email from Your inbox may send this email to your spam/junk folder, so also check there. If you cannot find it, please email and we can re-send your confirmation.

Travel & Accommodation Questions

What should I pack?

Use the packing list below as a guide. (As you gear up for SLS20, don't forget to bring any other essential personal items you may need, such as prescription medication and the like.)

  • Mass attire

  • Casual attire

  • Outdoor apparel (jackets, hats, etc. Please check the weather forecast before you leave. Note that the Phoenix Convention Center recommends bringing a jacket as their rooms are well cooled.)

  • Swimsuit (optional; please keep modesty in mind)

  • Bible

  • Camera

  • Toiletries

  • Money for some meals, vendor booths, parking, and gratuities for housekeeping and porter services

I am coming to SLS20 by car. What’s the best way to drive there? Will there be on-site parking?

Where will I be staying?

SLS20 attendees whose registration includes a hotel room option will be housed in one of the hotels around the Phoenix Convention Center. Hotels will be assigned in December. A confirmation email will be sent on or after December 20. If you do not see one at that time, please contact Connections Housing for ay housing inquiries:

General hotel check-in time will be 3:00 p.m. on the day of arrival.

  • Here's a breakdown of the room options by registration item:

    • Event Pass + Shared Room

      • Four-night stay with three to five roommates in a hotel near the convention center

    • Event Pass + Private Room

      • Four-night stay in a hotel near the convention center and your own room

    • Family Event Passes

      • Families will be able to book their own housing at the special conference rate. Follow the link provided after completing registration.

For basic Event Passes, Day Passes, or Evening Passes, you will need to arrange your own housing or transportation to/from SLS20.

How are roommates assigned?

If you are a college student, you will be roomed with other students from your campus. Otherwise, you will be roomed with other attendees at random. (You may not know them right away, but they might just be the people Jesus intends for you meet and spend time with in Phoenix. Who knows?) We are not accepting roommate requests at this time unless you have submitted a group registration form.

What time should I arrive/depart?

SLS20 check-in begins at 12:00 p.m. on December 30 and ends at 12:00 p.m. on January 3. If you register for the full conference, we recommend arriving midmorning on December 30 and departing in the afternoon on January 3.

Official hotel check-in begins at 3:00 p.m. If you stay at a hotel in Phoenix, keep in mind that they may be able to check you into your room early based on availability. 

I’d like to arrive early/stay longer. Can I reserve a room for an extra night?

With Event Passes that include housing, we can only reserve hotel rooms for the days of the SLS20. Should you wish to spend more time in Phoenix, you will need to make your own arrangements.

What’s the nearest airport?

I was contacted by a housing vendor for SLS20. Is this legitimate?

Connections Housing is the only approved, official housing vendor for SLS20. We understand that unauthorized housing companies may contact you and advertise cheaper rates, or they may imply or claim an affiliation with SLS20. Unfortunately, some past attendees have fallen prey to these companies and were unable to recuperate the money they spent on rooms that did not exist. If you are contacted by any company that is NOT Connections Housing, please notify the SLS20 Housing Management at before providing any information to a secondary housing vendor.

I have (or my family has) a special housing request such as a crib, rollaway bed, refrigerator for medical needs, etc.

To accommodate the many specific needs that families attending SLS20 may require, we allow families to book their room through the housing portal. On this webpage, families can send any special request directly to the hotel and will be able to reserve a room at the SLS20 conference rate. 

For other attendees in single or shared rooms, please contact Connections Housing at to make your request known. 

Do I need to stay at the hotels within the FOCUS room block?

The Family Passes option gives families the option to choose their hotel or other accommodation. After completing registration, families will have access to a housing portal link where they can reserve a hotel room at the special conference rate. If you would prefer to look for housing elsewhere, that is acceptable.

Will the Impact Session schedule be posted before the conference starts?

A detailed Impact & Training Session schedule will first be available when the SLS20 app is launched about a month before the conference begins.

What if I’m interested in being a vendor or sponsor?

If I’m not a college student, will there be specific tracks or relevant content for me at SLS20?

Yes! We will have a many different talks and special events to meet your needs. Along with the Collegiate Track for students, we will have the Making Missionary Disciples Track and the Campus Ministry Track. The Making Missionary Disciples Track will pertain to any post-college attendees and is designed to provide vision, training, and resources for those striving to be missionary disciples in the family, parish, and workplace. The Campus Ministry Track will pertain to those interested in creating dynamic and fruitful college campus ministries.

Is babysitting available at SLS20?

On-site childcare will be offered during the full days (Dec. 31 – Jan. 2) of SLS20. To enroll, select the Childcare Option that fits your needs within your registration.

Children aged 18 months – 10 years are eligible for childcare. 

Since FOCUS brings in a licensed vendor to provide childcare, there is a small fee for selecting this service. 


  • $150 for families registering one child for childcare for all three days. 

  • $250 for families registering two or more children for childcare for all three days.  

Standard childcare hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Days 2, 3 and 4. 

For an additional $50/family, care is available beginning at 8 a.m. to allow families to drop off their child(ren) before daily Mass.

Will you provide medical/ADA accommodations?

ADA hotel room requirements will be accommodated when noted in registration.

Reserved seating for specific requirements is available when noted in registration. 

For on-site medical emergencies, we will have an onsite medical team on call. Of course, the first response when an emergency occurs is to call 911.

How can I apply to be a speaker?

Will SLS20 offer American Sign Language interpretation?

ASL interpretation will be available when requested within registration. After selecting this need, look for further communication from the FOCUS Events team as SLS20 approaches.

Can I volunteer for SLS20?

We are in need of local volunteers at SLS20! Information about our volunteer needs and a link to sign up will be available in the fall.

Can I attend Mass without paying for an Event Pass?

Everyone entering the Phoenix Convention Center will need an Event Pass, for security reasons. Day Passes can be purchased online leading up to SLS20. You can also go to the Info Booth to purchase a pass on site.
